CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

A process Windows cannot run without stopped unexpectedly. Damaged system files, a bad driver or a failing drive are the usual causes.

How to fix it

  1. If Windows starts, run the repair commands:
  2. Open Command Prompt as administrator (search "cmd", right-click, Run as administrator).
  3. Run: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and wait for it to finish (it can sit at 20% for a while).
  4. Then run: sfc /scannow
  5. Restart the PC.
  6. If it does not start, open Advanced startup (it appears after two failed boots) > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair, or System Restore.
  7. Check the drive health: in Command Prompt run wmic diskdrive get status, or use the drive maker's tool.
  8. If it started after a new driver or update, uninstall it from Safe Mode.

Is it serious?

Often fixable. If the drive is failing, back up now and replace it.
